How memories of old threads come flooding back. The Solagran product Bioeffective A has a TGA listing as an L medicine - L 134782. This means that, unlike an R registered rating, Solagran "must not make claims or imply that they will be useful in the treatment or prevention of serious illnesses that would require the involvement of a health professional."
"Generally, listed medicines can be purchased off the shelf at supermarkets, health food shops, pharmacies and other retailers."
So the marketing handicap for Solagran is that they can't make claims that Bioeffective A will be useful. The marketing advantage is that Bioeffective A could be freely sold off the shelf in supermarkets, etc. .
The extraordinary thing, IMO, is that Solgran cripples the sales of Bioeffective A by requiring it to be sold as a "Practitioner only" product? Search for Solagran at
The unfortunate result is that Bioeffective A is invisible to customers browsing for health products on open shelves at "supermarkets, health food shops, pharmacies and other retailers."
By the way, TGA's registered R medicines also include most over-the-counter medicines (like painkillers, antihistamines, anti-fungal treatments). Owners of R rgistered medicines can make claims about the medicinal properties of their medicines, unlike Solagran with its crippling L listed Bioeffective A.
This strangulation of sales seemed daft in threads of many months ago. It continues to seem daft.
Why does Solagran restrict its distribution to practitioners only? I guess because they have a self-important view of their product, and to sell it at supermarkets would be below their dignity.
