Here's my take on it:

1. The AUD/USD spike yesterday which triggered a rush and the ineptitide of the US govt suggesting it could stay high for a while;
2. The AFR article on 23/07/17 (to follow) which, IMO was a complete beat up designed to trigger shorting. Does nobody realise that IPH is a holding company? I do suspect that someone is trying to do a Quintis on this stock:
3. The run yesterday being 3 weeks out from reporting season got people nervous that the people in the know knew something they didn't (which would make for a nice class action if true):
4. The volume of movement yesterday being astronomical re-inforcing the perception in point 3 in the context that very little of it was shorted, although hard to tell whether it was the shorters manipulating a fall on the back of bad news to buy back in cheaply:

I have tried to find news on this stock but there is none - which adds to the panic as we're flying blind.

When this has happened to me in the past, I just go back and analyse the fundamentals. I've also noticed SIPO stats out this week which suggest that China IP is booming in 2017 but PCT filings are only .04 of the patent filing volume. I cannot think of any rational risk that is dramatic enough to warrant such a drop and so I can only put it down to panic.

So I have gone shopping for more shares. Yes, there is a chance that earnings will disappoint but at these prices there is a 5+% dividend, and good long term prospects. I'm going to ride it out. It's not a pleasant feeling but it's the nature of the beast.
