They have held their cards close to their chest to date, but the LNP has come out in support of UCG in Queensland and appears committed to providing greater regulatory certainty for the industry than the back-peddling ALP. Page 33 of the recently-released LNP Resources and Energy Strategy states that an LNP Government would be committed to:

1) providing the opportunity to demonstrate the technical, environmental and commercial viability of UCG under strictly monitored conditions in appropriate locations.

2) continuing to support existing approved UCG trials in Queensland.

3) investigating potential to utilize UCG in the production of liquid transport fuels, including ultraclean diesel and jet fuels, from Queensland resources
