My point, don't count on Lead for vehicle batteries for much longer, even the simple starter-motor battery in older traditional cars is going Lithium, evidenced by the 12V Lithium options already in stores in Australia. Costs are high today for Lithium options, but they are falling.

I think it will be a long while before lithium displaces lead in 12V batteries. The cost, charge and temperature range advantages of lead over lithium are unlikely to be lost anytime soon.

All electric cars have a lead acid battery. Here is the latest VW (stolen from Alex's twitter feed).
