The majority of wagyu , over 95% on feed in Australia including AAC are first or second cross. Most of the F1 wagyu bought by feedlots is angus/wagyu cross although there are a few shorthorn & santa crosses appearing of late. The aaco herd was started with wagyu bulls over Santa/Angus cross cows then further crossing grading up a bit.If they cross high Tajima content bulls over brahman cows then keep the first cross female to cross again with wagyu then the meat quality soon soars. I do not know why you keep rabbiting on about the Japs they are not the big market you assume , in my experience the Japs say they want a certain grade product but as son as you provide it they then say they want it better & cheeper .
Purebred wagyu is graded up by crossing with other breeds , The 100% wagyu is called Fullblood.
I have been breeding them for 19 yrs.
