Agree with your points (2) and (3).
The various tax components in their distributions make things quite a bit more complicated than the LICs....
and it amazes me that the older LICs are so cost effective but i guess their lower MERs are somewhat offset by performance rights/options that are awarded to executives...
BTW, have you considered any of the international LICs or maybe ishares? Your portfolio is all ASX..
I know J Bogle is happy with all S&P500.. but then his comments are targeted at the US investor where they have a more diversified and larger economy.
my portfolio is similar - but I don't hold the smaller Milner LICs. Not too sure about the crossholdings and having so much $$ under the same fund management..
