This situation is definitely not unique to Leigh Creek.
The same situation has occurred throughout central and western Queensland for the entire boom time of oil and gas.
Now we are entering a second phase whereby the gas companies have strategically employed a different approach to the first.
They have realised just how much damage they caused to local communities by the massive upsurge (albeit temporary) in jobs and population, increasing spending and housing rentals.
Once the initial infrastructure was in place, they move on and leave ghost towns wherever they frequent, leaving communities devastated and bearing the cost for years to come.
That is a particular reason that I am so interested in Leigh Creek, the jobs will stay local, the town will revitalise, the state will benefit, and everyone involved will see some improvement to a pre- desolated and unimproved site that was left baron previously!
Anyway, thats my two bobs worth!
