I basically agree with you, but I do think over emphasising the sell is as silly/stupid/simplistic as the buy, especially considering the circumstances. Your approach is far more realistic than someone like Fishin who has an arguments that point basically amounts to "where there's smoke there's fire". Sorry if it comes across as inflammatory, but when most people on the more sceptical side here don't have any better argument than "the shorter's always right" or "smoke etc etc" it does get agitating. Especially considering it appears very much that historically the shorters have lost significantly more than they've made on this stock when you look at the chart. Prior short campaigns relating to similar issues presented in the media failed.
"So Jean ... were the “potentially just lies” you referred to being CTD’s (now proven) lies saying VGI hadn’t contacted them (when they had) or something else?"
I understand the point, but can you really consider this at the level of VGIs criticism of their cash balance, effectively implying that their entire business is based on false financials and an implosion waiting to happen, or blundering their understanding of basic accounting practises and suggesting changes their revenue recognition was the ONLY reason for any reported profit growth in the past 12 months? The shotgun approach where 90% of criticisms appear to be off in a substantive sense and then relying this or the patent issue or a few offices being closed doesn't justify the report.
Again I acknowledge there could be mistakes on behalf of CTD and false or mistakenly inaccurate information I'm relying on, but going on the current facts its appears VGI misled the market to a substantive degree with inaccurate information which collapsed the price through fear rather than accurate reference to fundamentals, some of their boldest claims like on the cash balance and revenue recognition which imply a drastically lower valuation don't seem to hold water. You can't justify huge false claims like this with petty criticisms like them lying about contact, when we don't even know exactly what that entailed.
