KarmelSonix to present 'cough/wheeze' abstract at conferenc
KarmelSonix Ltd and Karmel Sonix (Israel) Ltd have had an abstract by Drs Avigdor Mandelberg, Chief of Paediatric Pulmonology and Arie Levine, Chief of Paediatric Gastroenterology accepted for publication at the American Thoracic Society Conference to be held on 14-18 May, 2008 in Toronto, Canada.
The study, “Simultaneous Ph-impedance and respiratory symptoms recordings is crucial to establish causality of reflux-cough events”, evaluated the simultaneous recordings of GER by pH-Impedance technology manufactured by Sandhill Scientific Inc of Denver Colorado and cough/wheeze activity measured by the WIM-PC manufactured by KarmelSonix (Israel) Ltd.
In the 15 infants who were monitored continuously for an average of 12 hours there were 411 reflux events of which 31 percent were associated with a cough. Only one quarter of these coughs were identified by the parent staying next to the child and less than half of the parental detected coughs were correctly indicated. Wrong parental detection may have caused the impression that the reflux event preceded the cough, whereby in reality it was the cough that preceded, and likely caused, the reflux.
The study strengthens the commercial, clinical and scientific foundation of the ties between KarmelSonix Ltd and US based Sandhill Scientific Inc, the leading manufacturer of GER monitoring technology.
