it has struck an unlikely alliance with Seven/Foxtel-backed Presto – an alliance that looks to benefit both services in their battle with Netflix and Stan.

While Presto brings content to the table, Quickflix brings viewers and device compatibility.

Apart from streaming to a Chromecast stick from a portable device, the only way to watch Presto on your television is via Telstra's T-Box (you can actually get a six-month free trial). Meanwhile Quickflix is compatible with a wide range of Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, games consoles and other devices like the TiVo personal video recorder.

Striking a content deal with Quickflix takes some of the pressure off Presto to reinvent the wheel and develop apps for all those devices. The reach of Quickflix's app ecosystem is potentially a valuable asset to a competitor like Presto or Stan

Should Quickflix eventually hit the wall, you might expect that Presto would snap it up in order to stop both Quickflix's customers and its apps falling into the hands of rival Stan.

If Quickflix is liquidated, or there is a 51 percent change of ownership, StreamCo is entitled to a $10 million payout – several times Quickflix's total value. You could speculate that Quickflix's "reseller" arrangement with Presto may well be designed to form an alliance while working around this restriction
