Do you really think that if the GST was raised to 15% that any other taxes would be abolished. Remember back to the introduction of the 10% GST that was introduced on the basis/understanding that most other taxes would be abolished. Name me any that were. I can name a lot that are still in force. Stamp duty is supporting state finances as one example.2 years ago I paid $50,000 in stamp duty to change from one residence to another. We decided not to stay there and shift again. Another $50,000 in stamp duty paid.
Plenty of people have to shift around for various reasons. Those young people that have growing families that want/need to upsize are faced with this cost as are the older ones downsizing. Add agents and legal costs as well which are costly and also include GST.
Time governments lived within their means the same as they expect you and I to manage.
The best reason I can see NOT to vote for socialists.
