Maybe if people listened to the entire statement and not just the headlines - guilty again of short term vision?
The Left are spruiking new properties are to be exempt and current CGT discounts apply, for now. Hopefully taxpayers still have Peter Garrett's words firmly in their memory bank in that "we'll change everything when we get in". I'm of the opinion they're not worth the risk.
@All4One, when has CGT applied to a PPR other than when earning an income from it or breaking the 6 year rule? As for the death tax - we still have one where the taxable portion of your Super balance gifted to a non-dependant may attract 15% or 17%. See now the long-game of getting more people putting more cash into Super? And if you want more PM churning and more hung Parliaments, then go ahead and vote minorities - it may even force our current crop of intellectual pigmies into changing the many forms of Government interfering in our lives.
We need to tax 'everything else' as Governments have failed to properly introduce a broad-based consumption tax. It started with the Left and Greens exempting segments right up to the current failure to raise the GST level to 15%, which if brought in and applied to everything would remove the need for any new taxes. Might even reduce the Tax Act to a few chapters..............
