"An expanded Kwinana desalination plant is shaping up as Perth’s next major water source after the Water Corporation spent $30 million buying land next to the existing facility.
The State-owned utility confirmed it had paid $30.5 million to acquire 15.2ha of land adjacent to the 50-billion-litre-a-year Perth Seawater Desalination Plant — Australia’s first."

A bigger desalination plant will consume more power. If the power comes from fossil fuel, it will increase CO2 emissions.
Given that Australia has signed up to decrease CO2 emissions, renewable energy would almost certainly have to be considered to power the plant.
The Kwinana industrial hub, is growing rapidly.
It must be about time for an assessment of nearby renewable energy resources.
