The DFRDB is a government guaranteed pension fund and it pays for the life of the ex soldier.
The DFRDB was stopped years ago but we were all given the option of going to the new super fund or staying with the DFRDB and so most of us stayed with the DFRDB. Those that did not were very sorry they changed.
IMO there is one rule when dealing with offers like this, dont trust the government they will always do what is best for them and their budget for election in the next cycle, rarely is it done for the soldier.
The DFRDB was superannuation payed into by the soldiers for a minimum of 20 years. DFRDB payed out in a lump sum and a super pension for the life of the soldier, how much depended on how much you changed into that pension and how much you took as a lump sum.
It is government guaranteed and I have posted about this before. DFRDB is on the same piece of legislation as the polies super so it is further guaranteed as long as we have polies running the country.
