Nimrodel Resources (ASX: NMR) has delivered a maiden Inferred JORC Resource of 4.23 billion tonnes of thermal coal at its 70% owned Takatokwane Coal Project in Botswana.
Intriguingly, the coal is relatively shallow with average depth of less than 150 metres over the entire resource.
The resource, which is estimated using a 1.5 metre cut-off, has a 57% yield at a 1.6 SG float, providing a washed resource of 2.395 billion tonnes.
Significantly, Nimrodel believes the Inferred Resource to be the largest thermal coal resource to be reported within Botswana, which bodes well for the potential of the region to host a major thermal coal deposit.
Takatokwane and Takatokwane South cover about 2000 square kilometres of continuous land, 195 kilometres west of the capital city Gaborone, on the border of the Kweneng and Southern district.
The company is earning a 70% interest in Wizard Investments, the 100% owner of the Takatokwane project, and a 65% interest in Triprop Energy, which owns the Takatokwane South tenements.
Nimrodel started a two phase drilling program on the Takatokwane South tenements in October to test the extension of south-east trending coal seams identified in a previous resource drilling program.
The company is also in the process of completing a Scoping Study at Takatokwane which is on schedule for reporting in the first quarter of 2012.
