Rio Tinto has sold its Hail Creek and Valeria coal assets in Queensland to Glencore for $US1.7 billion ($2.2 billion).
Hail creek exports 9.4 million tonnes of hard and thermal coal a year from Australia and Valeria is not yet developed.
