It appears that the Italian partner ENI is also a co-owner of the future South Stream pipeline. One of the 2 branches of SS should end in Italy.
That might explain why the KEY ann re Italy appeared on the second day after the SS contract was signed by the premiers of Russia and Italy, and France was also given a chunk. The pipeline will run through the bottom of the sea. That means a lot of control over this waters in the hands of ENI, and hopefully less Tanzanian type of partnership problems... I hate monopolies, but this one might work in our favour.
