Job description
Responsible for all aspects of Nearmap’s engineering product development activities. The Vice President Development will focus on the structuring and operation of the product development engineering group as a cohesive unit; the conceptualizing and day-to-day management of simultaneous projects; delivering manufacturable systems to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints and the fostering of innovative solutions to current and future customer needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the CEO, you will
Serve as a key member of the company executive setting the strategic direction
Develop strategic planning for the direction and control of product development activities
Formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance for the department
Be a student of current geospatial industry trends, ensuring that Nearmap maintains and expands its technology leadership position
Motivate staff and provide direction and guidance as well as hands-on project management
Ensure implementation and refinement as required of formal process to support the product development process
Ensure that product development is focused on meeting and exceeding customer requirements
Lead a talented multidisciplinary engineering team comprising Image Processing software engineers, Electronics and Mechatronics engineers, Data Scientists/Machine Learning engineers.
Present confidently to Executive/Board at regular intervals
Qualifications
Minimum 10+ years industry experience with at least 5 years in a management position
Demonstrated team building and leadership skills
“Out-of-the-box thinker”, must be a key driver contributing to the products roadmap
Deep technical expertise in one of optics/electronics engineering/software/image processing
Strong mathematics fundamentals including linear algebra and numerical methods
Experience recruiting and leading world-class multidisciplinary engineering teams
Masters or PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science, AI, Applied Mathematics or related field
