Have to disagree. Because of what now is considered 'the arts' we have thousands of unemployable lazy graduates, (Calvin Coolidge called them educated derelicts). We got to where we are because of the sciences. A few of the arts have been and are important in development of our society, culture, etc, but for the most part, the modern 'arts' have become slang for 'I couldn't get into anything else at uni but I really wanted to go'. It's a bit like the give everybody a medal brigade at school. Water the achievement or action down until it becomes irrelevant, but the parents get to go to maccas and tell little Johnie he's such a brilliant sportsman for coming last.
