A MINE that could operate for 200 years and be worth tens of billions of dollars is to open in the Territory Outback.
Entrepreneur Jerry Ren said the first exports of ilmenite - which is used in everything from paint pigment to submarines - will go through Darwin port within a month.

Thirty workers will be employed on the mine.
About 27 million tonnes of ilmenite has been identified at the site in the Roper River region, 105km east of Mataranka.
But only 10 per cent of the 14,000sqkm lease has been explored. Related Coverage

Mines Minister Willem Westra van Holthe said the project would be a tremendous boost for the Territory economy.
Mr Ren said the mine had permission from the NT Government to use 100l a second. But he said he doubted the take would exceed 25l.
