Have you considered that Jack Russells can become very yappy if bored.
They were originally a working dog and have tons of energy.
Hope you don't have problems with the neighbours.
My choice would be a female as well although I note that our female cattle dog is very adept at peeing on the ute's tyres if we have parked anywhere where other dogs have made their mark.
