    the use of sodium in batteries is nothing new its just nowhere near as efficient or fast, hence the popularity and market dominance of lithium. i'd be surprised if changing from liquid to solid electolyte will change this, and i would expect goodenough and his team knew they would get much more publicity if they left the sodium possibilty in the air. the benefits of sodium is that it is cheaper but the market will choose weight, charge and discharge cycles over cost every time, even if lithium is $30/kg the choice will be the same. the cost of lithium is still immaterial to the sale price and market demand for lightweight, fast, powerful long life batteries.
