Keep in mind that Codan has only recently released their new HF radio and it's still under ongoing development.

In saying this Codan has pretty much had the HF market to them selfs for some time with only comparatively small competition from Barrett Australia, and surprisingly they are to only two suppliers and developers of this class of HF land mobile equipment.

Barrett bought out QMac some time ago and iCom have a land mobile version which is some what obsolete and I would think don't even have a market share worth mentioning.


Unless Codan have lost contract recently (Which I Doubt) then they still supply defence departments, police, UN, Maritime and Aviation services.

These are huge ongoing contract, some government, always wanting the latest tech.

That does not include retail sales to HF groups and small to medium business who rely on this tech for remote communication.

To get a feel for sales of the new Envoy I called an Australian distributer I have had dealings with and they reported that Codan has always outsold Barrett about 6:1, and since the release of Envoy they estimated that figure to be up.

The new tech is far superior to anything on the marked and once fully developed will have the ability to be controlled from any ware in the world via IP over the net.

This has huge potential.
Imagine a UN convoy in a conflict country being able to talk back to headquarters on the other side of the world and send and receive data.

I know satellite phones are becoming more available however they are costly and still some what unreliable.

I have one in my car when I am out of range and 50% of the time I have trouble even getting through. Not to mention $3+ per min.

HF however does not rely on a carrier, they are point to point, also it broadcast meaning unlimited stations can listen and talk in one conversation, however also has the ability to have private in rioted calls.
