This is one of the best Hot Copper forums so please excuse my ignorance of iron ore mining.
My question is: Does anyone here think that FMG might be interested in a very high grade iron ore project in Western Australia.
I appreciate that South Down is a million miles from the Pilbara and Port Hedland but it just seems that with FMG's massive cash flow, operational excellence getting costs down that it must make some sense for FMG to be interested.
My world view is that low grade iron ore is on the way out and that FMG needs to move up the purity spectrum. FMG is a proven performer it's just that it now has the non preferred product.
I don't understand how blending works and whether it could work when the operations are so far apart. Maybe FMG can just take on the whole South Down project and ship the high grade material to China directly.
I would welcome all of your comments and thoughts.
Cheers............Daicosisgod
