I find it very strange that both ERG's sydney project and the unrelated melbourne project are in trouble with "software" problems.

In sydney's case because of the supposedly complicated range of ticket types available. This is a pretty bogus reason. I wrote a system for this for the government about 20 years ago.

However in melbourne this is not a convincing excuse at all, melbourne's is simple, much simpler than London.

I suspect the REAL problem in both cases is something else. Like the proximity readers don't work real good. In both cases they have problems with limited field trials, where the issue of complicated ticketing schemes dont apply at all.
