Dream on, if you divide $249 million by 9 million tonnes you get about $28/tonne. Do you know the cost of coal in underground mines in India For example: back in 1993–94, the cost of underground mining in CIL was about Rs. 710/ton ($22.5/ton). from 1990 to 2002, the rupee deflated dramatically from Rs. 17 to a peak of Rs. 49 per U.S. dollar in 2002.
The exchange was different then till now.
Now SCCL takes up mines that provide an IRR of 12 per cent at 85 per cent yield levels — its current cost of production is about Rs 1,400 a tonne, while its aggregate realisation last fiscal was about Rs 1,610 a tonne.
Project that involve an IRR below this level are bracketed under unviable mines. Such projects could be made viable by third party investors, including power producers, through improved productivity and technology.
So according to these latest costs of production of between say Rs 1400 to Rs 1,610/tonne. Convert to AUD$ Rs1400 = AUD$30 Rs 1,610 = AUD$33.50
However IRL plans to sell coal over a 30 year period at only AUD$28/tonne. You'd have to be joking. And they need to borrow $8 million to sell coal under the normal cost of production in India. Sounds like a very clever business deal for Prism Cement.
