02mar06 A WOMAN suspected of being infected with the deadly H5N1 virus had died in the southern Iraqi province of Nasiriyah, a government spokeswoman said.
Ibtisam Aziz, spokeswoman of the Government's Avian Influenza Technical Affairs Committee said additional tests on the woman's samples were being carried out in Baghdad and Cairo laboratories.
She said other cases of suspected bird flu have also been uncovered in Diyala province.
Ms Aziz said steps to isolate these areas were being taken and teams had been sent to kill infected poultry.
