Article below is from KLA website & refers to their goal of acquiring more deposits by buying shares or rights in other Companies
Title: Management’s Discussion & Analysis
For the three and nine months ended September 30th.
Kirkland Lake Gold makes strategic investments in the common shares of other public issuers in instances where the Company can gain exposure to prospective mineral properties that offer the potential for future profitable gold production.
So we know they want to buy into any Co with "potential for futureprofitable gold production" ... they are clear on that.
In the event that the prospective mineral properties owned by a public issuer in which Company invests results in the establishment of an economic deposit, the Company’s intention would be to acquire ownership of the deposit.
And we know that they are looking to buy the deposit off another Company if it is an "economic deposit".
So they are cashed up to buy into other Companies or to buy the rights off those other Companies. That is their stated intent.
Buying "the rights" often means buying the Company but not necessarily. It would depend on what option gained the desired result.
