As usual you leave out the positive news lol. What a surpriseCarmakers are putting up with the drama for now
Are battery makers and auto companies concerned enough about these issues plaguing the DRC to source their cobalt elsewhere?
It doesn’t seem that way, Mr Heppel says – if anything, auto makers have become “more accepting” of DRC volumes over the past 18 months.
In some cases, they are working on schemes which would allow them to work directly with artisanal (or small scale) miners, .
So, while some new supply of cobalt could come from other jurisdictions, the DRC will continue tolike this blockchain project between carmaker Ford and IBM be the major source of cobalt for battery applications in the long-term, Mr Heppel says – “barring any ‘black swan event’ like a civil war, that is”.
Spoiler: it’s not civil war.
Cobalt demand will continue to rise EVEN IF manufacturers use less per battery. Source: Cobalt27
Those predictions on the growth curve in EV demand look flawed, understated at 30-35% year-on-year. Also where is the demand from other industries apart from EV’s?
