The UK has had the same real-time payments system in place for a few years. If you go to bet365.com and look at withdrawal options you will see many, but timing to get money back to a bank account or bank card is 1-3 days.
The reason is that the gambling entities keep your credit card on file and if there is any fraud, the individual is covered by the zero liability policy of visa. They don't hold your debit card details on file or your bank account, because of their systems were hacked and that information leaked, the liability is with the individual. So in short, even if they can practically send money in real time, they still need to have the customer go through an process to verify their ID and bank account information to prevent fraud, which takes time.
Secondly, from a practical perspective, EML corporate customers have one connection to EML supporting hundreds of thousands of customers, but they aren't going to tune their systems to make payments to customers that could be across dozens of banks and other financial institutions. That is not scaleable and becomes cost intensive.
