New International Students Tuberculosis (TB) Testing By Quantiferon Blood Test (QFT), Fall Semester 2007
If you have ever been tested for TB in the United States of America by any method, please see the nurse in room 216 NOW,
BEFORE you have your blood drawn.
Thank you for coming for your Indiana state required TB Test. This test is a blood sample. The name of the test is Quantiferon TB (QFT). It is a highly accurate blood test for TB infection that replaces the tuberculin skin test (PPD, Mantoux Test, Tine Test). This test will be done in a single visit. This blood test does not react to BCG vaccine.
The cost of the test is $60.00. You may pay today or send the charge to your Bursar account. You will be given a statement by the IUHC Cashier for you to mail to your health insurance company to apply for reimbursement.
If the test result is negative:
This means you are most likely not infected with TB. The Office of the Registrar will be notified by the IU Health Center in one to two weeks that you have met the TB test requirement. That office will remove the hold on your OneStart Account. You will see your negative test result on your OneStart Account, Immunization Compliance Form, Tuberculosis Testing:
“QFT TB Test negative. Result on file at the IU Health Center
If the result is positive or indeterminate:
This means that you most likely are infected with the TB bacterium (germ). If you are not sick, then the infection is probably Latent TB Infection ( LTBI) or inactive TB. LTBI can become active in the future and make you sick and contagious.
You will be notified by a United States Postal Service mail letter about your positive or indeterminate results. This notice will come within two weeks. You will be required to take a chest xray for an additional charge. This is mandatory. The Office of the Registrar will not be notified that you have met the TB test requirement until you take the chest xray and the results have been evaluated.
After the chest xray, you will receive another letter in the mail with the results and further instructions for your health.
For questions about your health, see the nurse in Room 216, IU Health Center or call 855-5002.
For questions about the TB Test requirement or the hold on your OneStart Account, see the Office of the Registrar, Franklin Hall, Room 100, or call 855-0121, or email [email protected]
