The descent was mostly through cloud cover, but we got a good view of the base of the Himalayan range once we landed. Airbus a320 from Indigo. 180 seats, all full. Foreigners must register at the airport and then they follow up where you’re staying with your hotel. From what I saw there were only 4 foreigners including myself and my wife, the rest of the passengers were Indian nationals.
This is our last stop on our Indian hiliday, and many of the airports have doubled as military airports. But Srinagar has had the most police and army as defence. My wife was freaking out before coming here, but now that she’s seen the number of troops and the protected roads and terrain into Gulmarg she feels much safer.
Our final night in Srinagar will be on a houseboat. Hopefully there’s no escalation of violence before then. (Or at all.)
