Perhaps Bill Gates could help me in Australia to get some real numbers ?
During 2016 I set out to find more money for medical research which I know could be released by using valid arguments but first I had to have a valid argument.
So first step was to attempt to communicate with the grant givers and Universities to try to find out how many Life and Lab Scientists were really unemployed yet none would co operate despite media reports coming out with wild claims and Federal govt Job Prospects team saying it was too low to bother counting. The ABS said the same and other refuse to participate. The only organisation prepared to assist is Roy Morgan Research.
The Federal Govt gives out about $1.6 billion per year in medical research grants through two organisations who also refused to assist nor would they give me any information when I asked the following question several times in different ways.
Which of the 85% of rejected applications for funding would have been worthy of funding had the money been made available? Did they have any statistics or numbers of the numbers of unemployed science graduates who could carry worthwhile studies had the money been made available? I asked them a number of different questions to try pry out a useful answer however they cited confidentiality as their reason for not co operating. And no they said it was not their job to find out the unemployment numbers of research scientists.
If we remember awhile back there was an outcry about numerous numbers of Climate Scientists losing their jobs and I was thinking they could be put to better use into medical research rather than airy fairy climate political lobbying rubbish which was doing more harm than good for the science profession but alas even the Universities would not co operate.
This year I had two choices, I could go to seek out the money knowing the evidence against more money would only cause salary inflation or I could discuss a whole range of issues such as Fundraising Ethics. Instead of dedicating my time to raise money for medical research by talking to people with the money to make it available for more research I'll be stirring up what I can't say I suspect is going on in some quarters in research science funding and general money raising because the profession which claims to be needing more money cannot deliver even if I got them another $100 -1000 Million to use per annum because their is no manpower capacity in Australia.
Some people are claiming cannabis is the wonder drug but I'm not sure if the world scientific community believes it otherwise the pharmas would be into it by now although there are plenty of conspiracy theories around about that too.
Now we know there are a number of ASX listed companies claiming to be doing research into Cannabis but I suspect they are just trying to make money out of greedy ASX dealers and the inveztors will all end up being poorer.
Does anyone know of any reputable scientific organisation other than the ASX listed companies who might be conducting real research into Cannabis possible benefits ?
Has Bill Gates funded any research, however my main aim is to find out the real capacity of Australia to conduct additional medical research into a whole range of areas needing cures.
