Commander has not been a great business since it was with Telstra, those days are long gone. Reviving Commander is an indication that leadership really has its roots in the old telco world, one that has long since gone. Customers want one supplier for telco, IT and security, ie the convergence play. Commander has 1/3 of that and does not have the backing of a mobile carrier behind it, let alone significant IT experience like Telstra/ Bridgepoint and Optus/ Alphawest.
Everybody seems to be chasing enterprise while ignoring SMB, which is nonsensical, given the demographics of Australian business, SMB is the low hanging fruit. So what suits SMB, a one stop IT/Telco/ Mobility source, that source is actually the wholesale channel. To put it another way, there are 2000 odd telephone/PABX installers in yellow pages, 2000 IT/ network providers and around 3000 TIO members after you get rid of the calling card providers, that’s your SMB/ SME channel. And that channel is being asked right now what are the offerings available to replace legacy systems going end of life like ISDN??
