I personally think that people saying ‘what the pilots should’ve done’ is pure conjecture. These are views held with the benefit of hindsight and still without a conclusive report on the causation of the accident.
Whether there was a trim runaway, MACS operation on incorrect data or a fire, the pilots are in one of the most critical phases of flight and faced with an issue which they reported and were working to resolve. If you’re suddenly in a nose down attitude at a height of 1,900ft the reaction is probably one of sheer terror or shock even for a trained crew.
