I remember once driving down a street which was fenced off, and a workman told me to stop, and when I asked him why, he said that because there was a ditch at the end of the road and my car would crash into it.

I ignored him and crashed.

The workman ran down the road and said, "I told you so."

Needless to say I was pretty upset at him. My mate thought he was arrogant, and said to me (of the workman), "The classic I told you so."

The workman's reply ("I told you so") did not make me feel any better. How dare he say that to me?!
