Just becasue a share price falls does not mean you lose or have lost and cannot regain. Often as nursery has highlighted, there are strategies to get out of this postion.

First and formost is sell and sell early, barring that look for an opportunity. EG trading between the two to recoup costs. Often it doesnt even have to be a JV stock it can be any stock that is closely aligned to similar outcomes and timelines. That the market seems to value relatively.

The initial loss can make the gains while recouping accellerate, because they are sometimes CGT free due to carried losses until your Break even point.
