The Australian today:
Harvey Norman looks to have had a bumper Christmas, says Deutsche Bank 31 minutes ago | 9:50am | Chris Kohler
Early indications show Harvey Norman played the Christmas period perfectly, according to Deutsche Bank, with analysts rating both HVN and Myer a buy.
“Our feedback suggests trading has been solid overall but there was considerable variability across categories and retailers and consistent with recent years, the surge came late which prompted some retailers to lose their nerve and go on sale,” Deutsche Bank’s Michael Simotas and Daniel Wan said.
Harvey Norman the big winner, JB Hi-Fi strong and Myer probably okay
“Our feedback suggests HVN should have traded very well given the strength across all of the categories it sells,” the analysts said.
“Even products which are not traditionally strong pre-Xmas (furniture & major appliances) sold well right through December.
“JBH likely also fared well. We expect MYR sales were reasonable and while we have some concerns about gross margins we believe continued sales momentum should be enough to keep the market happy given the depressed valuation.
HVN remains our top pick in the sector,” Mr Simotas and Mr Wan said.
Did I miss the HVN announcement to all shareholders on Christmas trading?????......this is all great as I am a shareholder in both HVN & JBH, but how is it that these guys get the inside scoop?
ASIC are all hot air about this....retail shareholders DO NOT get the same management access and information as institutions despite them bleating about selective disclosure being against the rules.
This time its good news, but how many times have I been in the same position being the last to find out about bad news !!
