The size of boat is only part of the dynamics, what you clearly don't understand is that seismic survey operations are conducted over many months and, in the case of Western Geco, apply to multiple projects with not just one small boat. So a boat for each project. Additionally, WG used Dampier as its mobilisation/storage facility so it is not just limited to vessel ops. Another point to consider is that PGS , Veritas, CCG and other competitors also used MRM.
In answer to your question about new vessels, this is being acknowledged and addressed by MRM in focusing on care and maintenance of existing infrastructure. This is, somewhat, immune from the oil price dynamics as these multi million/billion dollar facilities still have to be maintained, irrespective of oil price.
I suggest you continue to stay away from MRM and watch it and oil rise, as you do so.
