My view is that the traffic modellers and the traffic projections were grossly overestimated.
The Westgate freeway alone carried 160,000 vehicles per day. Why would a freeway out in the eastern suburbs carry more than a mjor urban freeway leading into Melbourne.
Also, John Holland have been awarded the constrcution of the Springvale Rd grade separation work at the Srongvale railway crossing. This will improve travel times on Springvale Rd. Even more reason why traffic numbers will fall in future months. Only when the PPP Frankston freeway is complete will this dog of stock rise as it will remove the bottle neck at Seaford Rd (frankston end). Even then, i doubt the signficance of this as the freeway at Franskton end is only 2 lanes wide - and so has limited capacity of 3,600-3,800 vehicles per hour per carriageway in this section.
