The rumour mill is going into overdrive ... It?s almost certain Gunns have abandoned the pulp mill is the latest. The evidence is supported by other events and/or stories. Officially Gunns will continue to deny the mill is a dead duck because there?s every likelihood they will be in the hands of receivers otherwise. The pulp mill team were probably paid out now, while it was still possible to do so, through a sense of loyalty. Why would Gunns sack the people who knew the most about the project if there was any chance it would be built? Makes no sense.
They are now pushing for compensation to stop native forest logging, and if they don?t succeed they?ll be finished. The intention is to wreck the forest agreement.
The word is that Piilonen who Gunns employed to build the mill, went back to Finland at Christmas. He?s let it be known Gunns haven?t a clue about what they?re doing, and that the publicity will be disastrous for any JVP because permits are being subjected to legal challenge. Because Piilonen works for them, the likely JVP was Botnia, and if they?ve pulled out then any hope of finance has gone. Gunns now have nothing else. How ironic ...
