A fair bit of stock was shaken out on the initial downbar (hitting stops, causing concern and disruption), and then a quck buy back of the 'offer' stack (before anyone else could). At least that's what it looks like to me.
And yes, that period of bullish absorption was pretty close to 'text book' - (a pressing nature towards the upside, threatening downbars which do not follow through, and a tight clustering of closes). Very similar to the examples shown in the opening post on this thread.
