I know a broker who inherited a book from his father. most clients are now 70yrs plus, large long term holdings, maybe a blue chip switch once a year sort of stuff. they ring in [never seen him make an outgoing call once], it's full service, but it's actually execution only, and he'll charge them 2% brokerage, more if he can. they don't know any different, because that's what they've always paid. he makes a lot of money every year and has no problems doing it what so ever, if they ever suggested a discount because some other broker said this rate, he'll throw them half a bone but scare them into staying with him, because they've always been with him
