Victorian Landfills Register

With management of the state’s waste industry becoming increasingly important, Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has taken an important step to map all Victorian landfill sites with the new Victorian Landfills Register (VLR).
The VLR was a recommendation of the Victorian Auditor Generals Office (VAGO), and was a commitment of the Victorian government to meet the recommendations, that EPA develop a public register of landfills. It was developed after extensive records-checking in public documents as well as previously private records.
EPA will be writing to all property owners identified in the VLR to ensure they are aware of their entry in it. The letter outlines the process of consulting local councils to date and provides contact details for EPA if the property owner has further questions, or if they think their land has been included on the register in error.
The register will then be available online at www.epa.vic.gov.au  from 26 June, 2018 and will include:

• an interactive map (through NationalMap)
• the ability to download the information in various formats,
• include where the landfill is located
• the known attributes such as waste type, volume accepted and year of closure.
