I've been thinking that IVA might have to let the deal with Xstrata go through, as they know they cant block it with their holding alone.
Then make an offer for the rest of the company when the transaction is completed, they could then sell White Dam to Polymetals, keep the royalties themselves & have the exploration tennements they wanted in the first place.
It would seem that IVA dont really want the CCP (or the parts of it that will be sold to Xstrata) themselves, as the note at the bottom of their clarification announcement said "Ivanhoe had previously proposed to both Exco & Xstrata an alternative transaction under which Ivanhoe would have acquired a a direct interest in parts of Exco's exploration portfolio"
Although in reading that note, it would seem that the proposal may have been a joint venture deal with Exco on the remaining tennements, rather than a sale of them.
cheers
