• The active component of the oil is tasmanone, which comprises approximately 90% of the oil extract.

• The oil is of low toxicity to mammals, whether applied orally or dermal.

• It is non-mutagenic and non-irritant.

• Applied at concentrations 0.5% and above, it may cause plant damage. However, with effective formulation, this problem should be eliminated.

• At this stage, no effective formulation has been developed.



Given these conclusions, and the fact that this is a natural (and not synthetic) product with its associated costs of production, the likely initial target market for E. cloeziana oil (Qcide) is for control of many household and human pests. This could be as a spray or as a surface treatment, and, probably best, as a ready-made product. Products could also be developed for pests of companion animals, and home garden use. It is likely that the consumers of this proposed product will be prepared to pay the price differential for a natural product. Also, the volume of product required to supply the household market is much smaller than for the agricultural market.

The agricultural market is unlikely to be an early target for product."
