Your correct.. most Apartments owners are stuffed. When i was in property conveyancing I was telling buyers of apartments to avoid them like the plague but I was often told I was nuts and some got pretty nasty telling me I did not know what I was talking about.
I think ALP election promises have already had an effect on the property market and I'm betting they will not be able to pass the measure through the upper house and tell their voters it was not their fault it was the Senate numbers. Perception has affected the market and then perception will delay some buyers who will regret not buying now while they had a chance by listening to the shock jocks in the media.
From my personal experience, I have seen property prices go up 100 fold without gearing benefits since I left ANZ Bank some years ago. I'm going to predict house prices will rise faster than apartment prices over the next 10 years. House prices will more than double but suddenly over the later part of the 10 year period not averaging up per year, Apartment prices will drop. My prediction for central suburban housing up to 30 km radius in Melbourne & Sydney. DYOR GLTA.
imo if a bank will lend you money using other peoples money, I would borrow and buy but read the Mortgage document carefully yourself don't rely on your solicitor for comfort. Westpac are not dills they have lots of good and solid borrowers on their books. ALL my opinion due to my life experience. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH and prove me wrong in 10 years time lol.
