Great article. Opinion like anything else but really goes into the time-frames from discovery to usage..

The best example is aluminium, it took 5 decades to purify it, 3 more decades to produce it en mass and another 100 years to fully utilise it...
Obviously things are quicker now than they were then, but how much quicker?
