Is this what you are getting excited about. The wall of glittering gold in Zone7 at Porgera on page 3?
"Bonanza grade Zone VII in 1983 which was extended from an underground exploration adit in 1987-1989 (when we/ERA visited the underground we saw a whole wall literally glittering with visible gold)."
Porgera
Porgera's production started at about the same time as Mt Kare's alluvial plant. The ~28moz Porgera gold mine of Placer Pacific, Highlands Gold & Renison Goldfields started in SQ1990 at an initial head grade of 72g/t (2.23oz/t) from underground (apparently some of the stopes averaged ~680g/t [~21oz/t]) and produced ~750koz in its first 12 months of production to June 1991 at a cash cost of ~A$90/oz. This was followed by a second year of production to June 1992 of almost 1.5moz at a cash cost of only ~A$95/oz (as shown in Figure 2) and a throughput rate of ~0.9mtpa on recoveries ~95% through autoclaves, from
DQ1991(pre-autoclave recoveries were ~70%).
For the first 4 calendar years, production was >1mozpa. Figure 2. Porgera's Annualised Qtrly Prodn SQ 1990 to SQ 1999, and Annual Gold Production to 2012 a. Annualised Quarterly Gold Production at Porgera from SQ 1990 to SQ 1999 b.Annual Production to 2012
The Porgera mine area was discovered in ~1966 and explored and alluvial mined by MIM & Anaconda to 1984. Placer farmed-in in 1975, & Cons Gold in 1979. Porgera was a relatively ordinary gold deposit until a Placer geo (Geoff Handley) changed the drilling direction and discovered the Bonanza grade Zone VII in 1983 which was extended from an underground exploration adit in 1987-1989 (when we/ERA visited the underground we saw a whole wall literally glittering with visible gold).
