Great minds think alike. Several large buildings overseas have their lighting powered by pedestrians walking on piezoelectric tiles. Michelin is conducting research into using piezoelectric devices built into tyres for charging of electric vehicles; have even been tried in shoes, I guess for charging phones etc. In that great cartoon movie, Triplets of Belleville, a tour de France cyclist was kidnapped and taken to New York to join others kept as slaves to produce pedal power. All those people voluntarily peddling away in gyms could be hooked up to generators, perhaps even paid.
